The individual employer and home-based employment sector currently employs 1.2 million professionals serving 3.4 million individual employers, with nearly 600,000 positions expected to be filled by 2035. In response to this long-term challenge, the professional branch, through IPERIA, is strengthening its cooperation with employment stakeholders and deploying new collective pathways into employment. These practical, field-tested tools are available to all partners wishing to work alongside the sector.

A Strategic Employment Sector with Long-Term Recruitment Needs

The individual employer and home-based employment sector is now the seventh-largest employment sector in France. Demographic trends—including population ageing, increasing demand for independent living support and growing parental support needs—place the sector at the heart of the country's social and employment challenges over the next fifteen years.
Against this backdrop, the professional branch's ambition goes beyond training alone. It seeks to build strong bridges between job seekers and the wide range of career opportunities available across the sector.

A Cooperative Model Designed to Be Shared

The partnership established with France Travail illustrates a collaborative model that can be replicated more widely. As part of this initiative, IPERIA has developed a digital platform for employment advisors, currently being piloted in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. The platform enables advisors to gain a deeper understanding of home-based occupations, including day-to-day professional realities, entry routes, career progression opportunities and the sector's local support network.

This approach is intended to extend beyond a single partnership. It has the potential to be shared with a broad range of employment and inclusion stakeholders—including local authorities, social economy organisations, training providers and regional employment networks—with a common objective: helping people make informed career choices towards a sector offering sustainable employment opportunities while equipping partner organisations with the knowledge needed to provide effective guidance.

Employment Workshops: A Collective Resource for Partners

Alongside the individual support provided through IPERIA's Orientation & Career Development offer, particularly through the COEPS (Sector-specific Career Guidance and Professional Development Advisor) service, the professional branch is currently rolling out employment workshops led by IPERIA advisors. Delivered online, these collective sessions provide practical guidance on the specific characteristics of working for an individual employer, including how to present professional experience effectively, identify the most relevant recruitment channels and prepare successfully for interviews.

These workshops are designed to complement—not replace—the initiatives already delivered by local partners such as employment integration organisations, youth employment services and community associations. They represent another way for the individual employer and home-based employment sector to share its expertise in support of existing employment programmes.

A Professionalisation Ecosystem Open to New Partnerships

This collaborative approach builds on the work carried out by the professional branch since 1994 through IPERIA, its national professionalisation platform. Over that period, more than one million people have benefited from support services and more than 200,000 professional certifications have been awarded. By combining individual guidance (COEPS), collective support (employment workshops) and institutional partnerships (France Travail), the professional branch has developed a proven pathway linking job seeking to sustainable careers in home-based employment.

This cooperative model is not new. It has already demonstrated its value in partnerships with mandataire organisations, which face similar recruitment and employee retention challenges.

Today, this ecosystem continues to grow. If your organisation supports job seekers, career changers or people facing barriers to employment, the professional branch can provide its sector expertise, practical tools and specialist advisors to help build new pathways into home-based employment together.
