The picture might seem bleak: an aging workforce and an ever-increasing demand for labor in the individual employment and domestic work sector professions. Yes, the situation is alarming. No, we are not giving up. Our weapons? Innovation and professionalization.
A Dynamic Branch Under Pressure
Our sector matters! The figures speak for themselves: 3.3 million individual employers, 1.3 million employees, and 11.4% of households using domestic work services.Through elder care, childcare, and family support, our sector is essential to the well-being of society.
But it's a fact that we are experiencing significant pressure. Studies estimate that 800,000* jobs need to be filled in the sector by 2030.
An Aging Workforce
Why this alarming situation? This is explained mainly by the fact that one in two employees* is over 50 years old. Consequently, these professionals will be retired by 2030. Currently, there are more projected departures than entries into the sector. In this context, it is urgent to address the shortage of childcare providers and childminders and to meet the massive need for aging support and home care maintenance.
Supporting an Older Population
Aging isn’t limited to our sector’s workforce. The French population as a whole is aging. Consequently, the number of seniors seeking support to stay at home as long as possible is also increasing. The Observatory for Domestic Employment, based on INSEE's demographic projections, estimates that 130,000* additional personal carers will need to be hired by 2030 to meet the growing number of elderly individual employers.Rejuvenating (Future) Employees
Among the solutions for attracting new audiences to our professions, discussed on October 5 during our event organized with the professional branch of the domestic work sector, work-study programs hold a prominent position. We’re tackling this issue, and it’s a major first for our sector! Another innovation, and not the least: future work-study candidates will be supported by a Delegated Apprenticeship Master, a mentor who will follow them throughout their journey. We'll have the opportunity to discuss this further...
