Presentation by Mélanie TOCQUEVILLE (IPERIA l'Institut) at the international conference in Bucharest on the theme "Gender Equality in and through Education" in collaboration with the University of Lyon 2 (local coordinator of a Master's programme on these issues).
Context :
The Francophone Regional Center for Advanced Research in Social Sciences (CEREFREA) is based in Bucharest, Romania. It is affiliated with the University of Bucharest and the French Embassy in Romania.
The Center's network includes fascinating connections such as:
- The French Embassy in Bucharest.
- The Romanian Embassy in France.
- The International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF).
- The Francophone University Agency (AUF).
CEREFREA's primary mission is to strengthen the visibility of the French-speaking scientific community in humanities and social sciences. It operates in Southeast Europe and beyond and cooperates with French research and training institutions.
The Center proposed an international conference on "Gender Equality in and through Education" on November 25-26 in Bucharest. It will be organized with the University of Lyon 2, which coordinates a Master's programme in Bucharest on these issues. A European call for papers was launched in early October, and the conference's scientific committee accepted our proposal for a presentation.
Proposals :
We proposed a presentation entitled "Towards the recognition of so-called 'naturally feminine' professions: when vocational training also delivers social recognition".
We chose to present the context in which the domestic employees in our sector work and a focus on French language acquisition within the framework of the Professional French Skills programme, initially funded by the European Integration Fund (EIF).
The common thread of this presentation will focus on the importance of professionalization for women who, with low educational levels and often few qualifications, can obtain certified recognition, which beyond the diploma represents essential social recognition in terms of social positioning.
Moreover, within the framework of the Francophone network that CEREFREA represents, it seems essential to show that these women today can conduct activities with more confidence, independence, and autonomy in their daily lives by learning a profession associated with enhanced language skills.
