Webinar ChildIn Erasmus +
The European ChildIN project, funded under the Erasmus+ program, has just concluded. Its objective: to define, develop, and test training for home-based care of autistic children, to support their integration and social inclusion in the EU. The six European partners involved, with IPERIA as lead partner, worked together for two years to professionalize childcare providers and childminders to increase family well-being through adapted childcare. The final conference, organized by Autism-Europe, will be held Wednesday, April 21, from 10 AM to 12 PM: "The Importance of Quality Professional Training for Inclusion: The Erasmus+ ChildIN Project, a Success Story." A webinar whose first part will focus on European socio-political challenges, followed by a project spotlight. How can we promote better support for autistic children in the EU? How is the ChildIN project, through training childcare providers and childminders, a success? How can we draw inspiration from it and go even further in the EU?

ChildIN: Professional Training Serving an Inclusive Society

Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) result from neurodevelopmental anomalies affecting interpersonal relationships. The first indicative signs of autism usually appear between 18 and 36 months, the age when most children (except those cared for by their parents) are in the care of a childcare provider or looked after at home by a professional. Autism cannot be cured, but care adapted to the child improves their functional abilities to interact with and adapt to the surrounding world. In this regard, early screening is essential: the earlier care begins, the better the results will be, with greater progress and the possibility of avoiding additional disabilities. These are the concrete challenges of the ChildIN project summarized in a few lines. Training childcare providers and childminders in caring for autistic children means, on one hand, recognizing them as competent professionals to support these children, and on the other hand, helping these children to develop, integrate into society, and thrive.

A Free Webinar Open to All, Registration Required

To close the ChildIN project, Autism-Europe, one of the partners, is organizing the webinar "The Importance of Quality Professional Training (Vocational Education and Training -- VET) for Inclusion: The Erasmus+ ChildIN Project, a Success Story." This two-hour webinar will take place on Wednesday, April 21, at 10 AM.

Autistic individuals and their families, professionals, associations, policy makers, and other interested parties are invited to participate in this collaborative event on EU policies regarding initial and continuing vocational training and best practices aimed at promoting the inclusion of autistic people. The Erasmus+ ChildIN project, coordinated by IPERIA, will be presented as a success story.

The event will be broadcast live, and most presentations will be in English, except for those by Marie-Béatrice Levaux, President of the European Federation for Family Employment (EFFE), Alain Lassus, President of the Departmental Council of Nièvre, and Nadège Turco, Deputy Director of IPERIA.

A Rich Program for the EU's Future

During the first part of the event, a selected panel of speakers representing disability communities, children (rights/care) and families, as well as policy makers involved in vocational education and training (VET) at regional, national, and European levels, will speak:

The second part of the event will be exclusively dedicated to presenting the results and policy recommendations of the Erasmus+  ChildIN project (Training childminders across Europe for inclusion) by partner organizations from France, Portugal, and Poland:
  • Radka Maxová, Member of the European Parliament
  • Alain Lassus, President of the Departmental Council of Nièvre
  • Rui Pena, President of Cooperativa Comenius, Portugal
  • Aurélie Baranger, Director of Autism-Europe
  • Nadège Turco, Deputy Director of IPERIA
  • Beata Traczewska-Skóra, Director of European Funds, Techpal, Poland
  • Gloria Ortiz, European Projects and Partnerships Manager at IPERIA, Project Coordinator

ASD has been recognized as a disability in France since 1996. After recognition comes the crucial step of care. The ChildIN project, a true success, signifies a major step forward for the domestic work sector and families in France, and more broadly in the EU. It's now up to decision-makers and other countries to take up what has been built to (continue to) professionalize childcare providers and childminders and enable them to offer appropriate care for autistic children and their families. ChildIN, a project that continues to inspire!
