2020: Skills Certification Supporting Disability Care
A new year heralds new developments... By creating a new certification offering for (future) personal carers, childcare providers, and childminders, IPERIA addresses the support needs of adults and children with disabilities.

In France, 12 million people are affected by disability, with 15,000 children born each year with disabilities of varying severity. There are also 70,000 individual employers with disabilities (65% under 60 years old). In the context of a shortage of specialized facilities and qualified employees in home-based occupations, there are numerous difficulties regarding childcare and maintaining people at home.

Faced with such social and societal challenges, and at a time when 97% of French people favor keeping people with disabilities at home with professional support*, IPERIA, the national platform for domestic work professionalization, is creating two complete certification pathways on disability—one for (future) personal carers and another for (future) childcare providers and childminders—with four dedicated skill blocks.

"This disability approach is part of the occupation evolution," explains Camille Savre, Head of Certification Design Service at IPERIA. Professionals and job seekers interested in these future-oriented occupations can acquire and certify specific skills for supporting children and/or adults with disabilities at home.

"These new blocks offer holders of 'Dependency Personal Carer' or 'Childcare Provider/Childminder' qualifications the opportunity to specialize in disability care," adds Camille Savre. By validating these complementary skills, childcare providers and childminders can welcome a broader audience. "It's a skill development where professional opportunities exist but haven't yet met trained individuals," she continues. On one side, certification provides professionals with the keys; on the other, it's an assurance, a skills guarantee for parent employers seeking individual care for their child with disabilities.

IPERIA provides a complete downloadable guide, "10 Practical Sheets to Understand Certifications for Supporting People with Disabilities," which includes context, challenges, block descriptions, benefits, etc.
