As a committed actor serving the professionalization of current and future employees in the professional branch of individual employment and domestic work, IPERIA participated yesterday, Tuesday, October 18, in the partners' conference of the Lab Migration for domestic work organized by FEPEM in Marseille. What challenges does this project address? What role will we play? Which occupations are targeted, and who is eligible? Let's take stock.
A Project Aligned with Domestic Work Reality
Launched last March 11 in Marseille, the Migration Lab is an innovative and personalized integration pathway from reception to employment in the professional branch of individual employment and domestic work. It relies on three fundamental drivers:
- French language
- Professional skills
- Civic Engagement
On one side, immigrant populations seek professional integration and social recognition. On the other hand, the sector is facing strong pressures. As a point of convergence, the Lab Migration for domestic work is one of the responses to the challenge of 800,000 jobs to fill by 2030 in this sector, but it goes beyond that. For Marie Béatrice LEVAUX, President of FEPEM: "The Migration Lab supports a comprehensive process of positive, economic, and civic inclusion." An approach well-received by those primarily concerned - individual employers themselves: 62%* indicates that a comprehensive support project (economic, social, and civic) could encourage them to employ a foreign worker or worker of foreign origin.
An Individualized Professionalization Pathway
As a stakeholder in this project serving the sector's HR policy, IPERIA applies its expertise at different levels. Because accessing employment requires mastering skills, candidates will benefit from an integrative professionalization pathway and comprehensive, personalized support, from orientation to employment monitoring and pathway security. "We designed this professionalization component around three items: pathway, support, and individualization," summarizes Nadège Turco, Deputy Director of IPERIA.
Phase 1: On the Path to Employment
An IPERIA career guidance and development advisor who is an expert in the sector will explain to the person the context of domestic work and the expected skills for the profession and confirm their interest in this project. Then, they will have them take a skills positioning test, "an innovative tool we built for the Lab," announces Nadège Turco. "The goal isn't to determine if the person has certified, attested skills (that comes later), but rather to take a holistic approach: people arrive in France with their personal experiences, their professional background, which can be assets for becoming a sector employee!"
This tool will make all these elements visible and reveal needs. Based on this, IPERIA will prescribe the professionalization pathway most suited to the candidate's profile: a certification pathway enabling them to acquire or validate necessary skills in technical, language, and digital areas for quick entry into their chosen occupation. For the pilot experiment in Marseille, EMD Terre de Ciel, an IPERIA-certified training organization, will provide the training for this pathway.
Phase 2: Employment Retention and Security
Not only will IPERIA support candidates through the key certification stage, the skills guarantee that reassures employers, but also long-term with employment monitoring at 6 months and 18 months, or longer. "Our career guidance and development advisor will monitor the employee at work, review emerging needs with them to continue supporting their skills development."
Building a Career in These Occupations is Possible!
The Migration Lab highlights the entire professional branch of individual employment and domestic work. The four key occupations -- childcare provider, childminder, dependency personal carer, and family assistant -- serve as landing points, but the goal is to integrate future employees into the sector sustainably. "Our objective is to bring people into our sector of course, but also to ensure they feel good there, that they want to stay and see themselves there long-term," explains Nadège Turco.
Professional development possibilities are numerous: family assistant yesterday, dependency personal carer today, coordinator tomorrow. Mobility is embodied in bridges between occupations and progressive skills development. Currently, five specialized certificates provide professional expertise and help individuals distinguish themselves within the sector. Additional certifications are available to further strengthen the industry.
Who is Eligible?
The Migration Lab pathway is open to adults with work authorization and having a minimum A2 level in French:
- Persons with international protection: refugee status or subsidiary protection
- Newcomers who have signed a Republican Integration Contract or Reception and Integration Contract
- European citizens or residents
- Ukrainian refugees
