Pathways Between the "Dependency Personal Carer" Qualification and the State Diploma in Educational and Social Support (DEAES)
It's official! Pathways between the "Dependency Personal Carer" qualification and the State Diploma in Educational and Social Support (DEAES), both level 3, now exist. Applicable immediately, they represent recognition for the qualification created in 2009 by the professional branch of individual employment and domestic work sector, for which IPERIA is the certifying body. Specifically, what training exemptions and reductions are possible? Here's everything you need to know.

From DEAES to "Dependency Personal Carer" Qualification

The pathways were approved by the Joint National Employment and Training Committee (CPNEFP) of the professional branch of individual employment and domestic work sector on November 17, 2021. The equivalencies cover the following blocks:
  • BC04.01 -- Living environment and laundry maintenance: eco-responsible practices
  • BC09.01 -- Elderly person with dependency: personalized support
  • BC10.01 -- Person with disability: personalized project and support
  • BC11.01 -- Daily activities for dependent adults
  • BC12.01 -- Meals for dependent adults
Thus, a DEAES holder is exempt from five of the eight skill blocks comprising the "Dependency Personal Carer" qualification if they pursue certification in this qualification.

The pathways have been established, and their application was confirmed by Decree No. 2021-1133 of August 30, 2021. Two equivalencies concern the following skill blocks:

Two equivalencies concern the following skill blocks:
  • Block 1 -- Supporting the person in daily life activities
  • Block 2 -- Supporting the person in daily life activities while respecting the person and hygiene and safety rules
Training reductions exist for the following blocks:
  • Block 3 -- Supporting the person's social and relational life
  • Block 4 -- Positioning as a social worker in one's intervention context
In practice, a candidate who wants to obtain the DEAES and already holds the "Dependency Personal Carer" qualification must pass evaluations for blocks 3 and 4. Beforehand, the training organization assesses the candidate's level and training needs to propose an adapted pathway.

Creating these pathways between DEAES and the "Dependency Personal Carer" qualification is promising for meeting employment and skills needs in the individual jobs and domestic work sector. Indeed, 63% of current personal carers will retire by 2030, representing 338,260 employees across the national territory[1]. "This proves the existence and recognition of the personal carer occupation in the social work landscape," declares Camille Savre, Head of IPERIA's Certification Design Service. "Today, bridges are possible between different occupations supporting dependent elderly people and people with disabilities. These pathways will facilitate the integration of people from other sectors. We can support their professional development by offering a certification pathway for acquiring core skills and those specific to direct home employment." Meanwhile, IPERIA continues its work to establish other pathways with other certifying bodies.
