It's official! The national collective agreement for domestic employees now extends to French overseas departments and regions (DROM). What does this mean in practical terms? Family assistants, personal carers, and childminders in Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, and Reunion can now use their skills development plan to access the branch's training and certification offerings designed by IPERIA.
Significant Employment and Skills Needs in These Territories
The French overseas departments account for 59,830 individual employers and 38,687 employees, including 6% childcare providers and 94% domestic employees*. These overseas territories show promise for the domestic work sector as they face significant challenges related to their aging population and the support of children's development from an early age.Promoting and Supporting Employee Skill Development
"The extension of the collective agreement to French overseas departments is a fantastic opportunity for domestic employees to access a structured and user-friendly professionalization system, to contribute to the recognition of their professions and skills, and thus strengthen our sector's attractiveness," says Nadège Turco, IPERIA Deputy Director. "We are determined to support childminders, personal carers, family assistants, individual employers, as well as our network of accredited training providers and all employment-training stakeholders with its application."
In 2019, there were 655 training enrollments in French overseas departments solely for childcare providers. With the extension to domestic employees, we expect this number to climb in 2021.
