Development of the Domestic Work Sector Between Individuals
Domestic work has strong potential to address both mass unemployment in local areas and citizens' living needs; it is an innovative and essential sector for the development of our society.

Daily, several million French people are involved in domestic work. With 3.6 million individual employers employing 1.6 million domestic workers, work between individuals is the citizens' organised and professional response to their family and intergenerational needs in their homes: childcare, "ageing well" and staying at home, support for disability, illness or dependency, and work-life balance.

To address new social and economic challenges and provide increasingly adapted solutions, IPERIA l'Institut, FEPEM, and IRCEM are organising a consultation from 25 April to 11 August 2017 at www.participons.emploietdomicile.org to prepare together for the sector's advancement by responding to five proposed orientations:
  • placing the home at the heart of public policies,
  • contributing to economic growth and employment,
  • strengthening integration and social utility through domestic work,
  • bringing forth citizen social responsibility as a societal issue,
  • initiating a European white paper on "Family and Home in the European Union".

Individual employers, domestic workers, family caregivers, non-profit organizations, agency-mediated employment organisations, local authorities, training organisations are all invited to respond to these proposals and bring new ones!

The consultation findings will be made public in September 2017.
